Meet Kim Cornish, LPN

kimberly cornish

Kim Cornish, LPN, is a licensed practical nurse and patient advocate with Umbra Health Advocacy. Over 18 years, she has worked across clinical, telehealth, and community health settings, including case management, chronic care coordination, behavioral health, and quality assurance. That breadth gives Kim a clear view of how the healthcare system works, and how to help her clients get the best care it can offer.

Kim Cornish’s story

“I became a patient advocate because I wanted to make healthcare feel more personal, more compassionate, and more accessible. Over the years, I watched too many patients get overwhelmed and feel unheard. As a result, I made it my mission to stand beside them, simplify the process, and give them the confidence to take an active role in their own care.

My approach is holistic, organized, and rooted in empathy. I focus on building trust, sharing what I know so my clients understand their options, and helping them make lasting improvements in their health and well-being. What I love most about this work is the connection. When someone feels truly supported and capable of reaching their goals, that’s when real change happens.”

How Kim Cornish helps clients

As an Umbra advocate, Kim can help with:

  • Coordinating care across doctors, specialists, and other providers
  • Explaining your diagnosis and treatment options in plain language
  • Managing and reviewing your medications
  • Preparing you for doctor visits and following up afterward
  • Supporting people who are managing complex, ongoing health conditions
  • Guiding you through prior authorizations and insurance appeals
  • Spotting the everyday barriers that affect your health, such as transportation, housing, and access to food, and connecting you to the right resources
  • Building care plans that match your goals and how you actually live

Kim Cornish’s experience with behavioral health and whole-person care

Beyond her general nursing work, Kim brings real depth in behavioral health and whole-person care. Early in her career, she worked as a psychiatric nurse, supporting patients with mental illness and developmental disabilities, including those living in group homes. That experience taught her how to advocate carefully and respectfully for people whose voices are often missed.

Since then, she has carried that whole-person view into every role. Kim understands that health is shaped by more than appointments and prescriptions. As a result, she pays close attention to the everyday factors that affect a person’s care, from emotional health and family support to transportation and food access. For her clients, that means an advocate who sees the full picture and works on all of it.
