Watch: Medicare Open Enrollment 2027
Medicare open enrollment runs through December 7. If you are still deciding what to do for 2027, this is a good hour to spend.
On October 19, Umbra hosted a webinar with Diane Omdahl, RN, MS, co-founder of 65 Incorporated and an independent Medicare expert who does not sell insurance. Umbra CEO Deb Gordon, MBA, BCPA, is a former health insurance executive and moderated. The full recording is below.
Running time: 54 minutes. Use the chapter markers on YouTube to jump to the part you need.
What the Medicare open enrollment webinar covers
- The real difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage, and the questions to ask before you choose
- How Medigap (Medicare Supplement) plans work, and why timing matters if you want to buy one
- What to look for in a Part D drug plan, including the 2027 changes to deductibles and out-of-pocket costs
- What to do if you got a letter saying your Medicare Advantage plan is canceled for 2027
- How to use the Medicare Plan Finder tool, and where it falls short
- Live questions from attendees
Three things worth remembering
1. The plan with the familiar name may not be the same plan. Insurers change networks, drug lists, and co-pays every year. Check the 2027 details, not the name.
2. Doing nothing is a decision. If your plan was canceled and you take no action, you return to Original Medicare on January 1 with no Medigap and no drug coverage. Our guide on what to do when your plan is canceled walks through the three paths.
3. Be careful who you take advice from. Open enrollment is also sales season. Our post on Medicare marketing red flags explains how to tell a sales pitch from real help.
Still have questions about Medicare open enrollment?
Umbra’s Medicare advocates have 15 or more years of Medicare experience. Some have worked at CMS or inside a Medicare Advantage plan. They do not sell insurance or earn commissions. An advocate can compare every plan available to you and recommend the one that fits your doctors, your prescriptions, and your budget.
If you have Original Medicare, help choosing your plan is covered by Medicare. If you have Medicare Advantage, we offer a reduced rate of $70 per hour.
Advocates need about a week to do the work well, so reach out by November 30. Call 332-699-6778 or tell us about your situation to get started.
