Patient Advocate Profile: Meet Yvette Lyles
Yvette Lyles is a patient advocate and senior care consultant with Umbra Health Advocacy. She brings a blended background in healthcare advocacy and a deep dedication to supporting older adults, their caregivers, and families.
Yvette Lyles’s story
“My work is rooted in personal experience. I became an advocate long before I made it my profession.
Over the years, I have guided family members and friends to face cancer diagnoses, chronic health crises, long-term care decisions, and hospitalizations. Those experiences taught me how overwhelming the healthcare system can be. They also strengthened a part of me that has always been there: the instinct to stand beside someone during the hardest moments and make sure they are not alone.
Being that steady advocate, listening deeply, championing their needs, and making sure their voice is heard, is at the heart of why I do this work. Every senior deserves clarity, dignity, and a trusted voice during times of uncertainty.

Yvette Lyles’s experience in long-term care and senior advocacy
Her advocacy extends into the community as well. Yvette has served on the board of the Center for Disability and Elder Law, a Chicago nonprofit, that provides essential legal support to low‑income older adults and people with disabilities. She also once was a Long-Term Care Ombudsman. As a result of these community collaborations, she brings not only personal commitment to this work but also a wide network of relationships and resources she puts to use for her clients. Combined with her experience across the continuum of care including home health, palliative care, and hospice, she offers a uniquely comprehensive understanding of what high‑quality senior care should look like.
