Meet Rachelle Cardinal, RN
Rachelle Cardinal, RN, is a registered nurse and patient advocate with Umbra Health Advocacy. She brings 15 years of nursing experience to the clients and families she serves, and she has spent that time close to nearly every part of the healthcare system. Her focus is helping people navigate complex medical situations with confidence, clear information, and steady support.
Rachelle Cardinal’s background
Most advocates know one or two corners of healthcare well. Rachelle knows the whole map. Over 15 years, she has worked as a floor nurse in med-surg, critical care, post-anesthesia, step-down, and telemetry units. She has run dialysis treatments, coordinated care as a case manager, and led teams as a supervisor and assistant clinical director. She also spent eight years in quality management, where she reviewed data, audited charts, and built action plans to keep care safe and well documented.
That range matters for the people she serves now. Rachelle has stood at almost every stop a client might pass through, from a hospital bed to a home health visit to a rehab facility. So when a client feels lost inside the system, she already knows how that system works from the inside. In her advocacy work today, she builds care plans that address the whole person, including food, transportation, and support at home, not just the medical chart.
How Rachelle Cardinal helps clients
Rachelle meets clients wherever they are in their health journey and helps them move forward with a plan. Her services cover a wide range of needs, and she tailors her support to each person and family.
She helps clients with:
- Medical and pharmacy billing questions
- Health insurance navigation and coverage reviews
- Benefits coordination
- Care coordination and case management
- Understanding a diagnosis and weighing treatment options
- Medication review and reconciliation
- Mental health and substance use advocacy
- Facility-based care, including hospitals and nursing homes
- End-of-life care support
- Legal advocacy
Throughout, Rachelle keeps clients informed at every step. She believes people make their best decisions when they understand their choices, so she takes the time to explain what is happening and why. Then she connects clients to the resources they need to follow through.
Rachelle Cardinal’s experience in care coordination and quality
Rachelle’s advocacy is grounded in years of hands-on care coordination and quality work. As a case manager, she completed full assessments, built plans of care, and kept doctors, families, and care teams talking to one another. As a triage nurse, she fielded urgent after-hours calls, sorted out what was really happening, and guided people toward the right next step.
Her quality background gives her a rare edge. She spent years auditing charts, reviewing documentation and coding, and tracking trends across teams. That work taught her exactly how records, orders, and coding drive billing and insurance decisions. So when a claim gets denied or a bill looks wrong, Rachelle knows where to look and what to question. Few advocates bring that behind-the-scenes knowledge to a client’s corner.
