Shiella Dowlatshahi Radel's passion for patient advocacy was ignited by her father's unwavering dedication to his patients during her childhood. This early exposure fueled her commitment to healthcare, leading her on a journey devoted to advocating for those in need.

In 2013, Shiella's path took a significant turn when her son was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. This personal experience drove her to immerse herself in volunteer work with patient advocacy organizations, focusing on advancing clinical and legislative initiatives for individuals affected by IBD.

Shiella's dedication to the cause is reflected in her professional credentials. She holds Board Certification in Patient Advocacy and earned a Master’s degree in Pain Research, Education, and Public Policy from Tufts School of Medicine in 2020. Additionally, she obtained certification in Hospital Patient Advocacy from Duke University in 2014.

Since 2014, Shiella has served as a board member of the New England Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, advocating tirelessly for individuals grappling with autoimmune diseases. Recently, she joined the Patient Advocacy Certification Board.

Beyond her advocacy work, Shiella is a devoted mother, accomplished executive in the biopharmaceutical industry, and author. Throughout her career, she has held progressive leadership roles in five research biopharmaceutical companies, launching groundbreaking products for rare diseases and acute care, all aimed at enhancing patient care and outcomes.

In her book, "Pack Your Own Healthcare Parachute: A Physician’s Death through his Daughter’s Eyes," Shiella shares profound insights from her family's journey, emphasizing the importance of informed medical decision-making. Through poignant anecdotes about her father's dual role as a physician and patient, she inspires readers to advocate for themselves and their loved ones within the complex healthcare landscape. Her impactful contributions have earned her the prestigious title of “Best Publication in Patient Advocacy,” showcasing her unwavering commitment to the cause.
